About the Spain DNI/NIE validator
DNI and NIE structures
The validator accepts Spanish DNI values with eight digits plus a control letter, and NIE values beginning with X, Y, or Z followed by seven digits and a control letter. NIE prefixes are mapped to 0, 1, or 2 before the checksum calculation.
Mod-23 letter and testing limits
The numeric base is reduced modulo 23 and mapped to the official letter sequence. The generator can create DNI or NIE samples and rejects repeated digit sequences, but generated values are fictional format samples and cannot prove identity, residency, or legal eligibility. Since the current value can travel in a share URL, do not share links containing real documents.

I only have the eight digits. How do I find the letter?
Type just the digits. The tool calculates the control letter straight away and shows the complete document number; you do not need to guess a letter first.
Does this tell me whether a DNI is real or who it belongs to?
No. It only checks the arithmetic between the digits and the letter. Whether a document was ever issued, is still valid, or belongs to a particular person can only be answered by the official authorities, and this tool has no access to that.
How is the DNI control letter calculated?
The number is divided by 23, and the remainder (0-22) selects the letter from an official table. For a NIE, the leading X, Y, or Z is first replaced by 0, 1, or 2. The tool shows the remainder and the letter it maps to.
The letter does not match. What does that mean?
Usually a typo. The tool shows which letter the digits actually produce, so you can compare it with what you have. It cannot tell whether the digits or the letter is the part that was mistyped.
Is my data sent to any server?
No. Everything is calculated in your browser, and what you type is not uploaded, not stored, and not placed in the page address.
