Two ways to describe a rotation
A daily sequence assigns one shift per day and repeats, so 2 on 2 off is DDOO and a 4-team 2-shift rotation is DDOONNOO. A weekly sequence assigns one shift per week and repeats, with an optional weekends-off switch, which matches the classic 3-shift rotation. The start date tells the tool which real day the sequence begins on, and the cycle position tells it which slot that day occupies, so an existing schedule can be matched without retyping it from day one.
What the tool does not decide
It expands a fixed rule plus the holidays you mark. Swapped shifts, overtime and leave are not applied, and the calendar does not know your employer's roster. Treat the result as a planning view and confirm with the official schedule before booking anything that cannot be changed.

How do I write my own sequence?
Choose “Custom sequence…” and type one character per slot. D or “day” is a day shift, E is evening, N is night and O is off; Chinese users can also type 日, 中, 夜 and 休 directly. A daily sequence repeats every day, so 2 on 2 off is DDOO. Switch to “Per week” to make each character stand for a whole week, which is how a weekly 3-shift rotation is written.
How does the tool expand 2 on 2 off or a 4-team 2-shift rotation across the year?
The tool counts calendar days from the start date and walks through the sequence one slot per day, wrapping around at the end. Because it counts real calendar days rather than milliseconds, daylight-saving changes and leap years do not shift the pattern. The cycle position you tap tells it which slot the start date itself occupies.
How do I get the shifts into my phone calendar?
Press “Download .ics”, choose whether to include every shift or only days off, then open the file. On iPhone, Apple Calendar offers to add all events; on Android, open it with Google Calendar or import it at calendar.google.com; Outlook can import the file from its calendar settings. Each day is one all-day event.
Should I export every shift or only days off?
Export every shift for your own calendar, so day, evening and night shifts are visible when planning. Export days off only when sharing with family or adding to a shared calendar, because one event per work day quickly crowds everyone else's view.
What if my shift gets swapped or a public holiday falls on a work day?
Mark holidays in the Holidays section (pick dates, add Taiwan's holidays in one tap, or import an .ics calendar): they get a corner mark, count as holidays worked when they land on a shift, and can be treated as days off with the switch. Swaps, overtime and leave are still not applied and the tool cannot see your employer's roster, so confirm with the official schedule before booking anything you cannot change.
Which rotations does the tool cover, and where is the rule stored?
Presets cover 2 on 2 off, the 4-team 2-shift rotation, 4 on 2 off, 6 on 1 off and a weekly 3-shift rotation with weekends off. Custom sequences allow up to 42 days or 8 weeks. The rule is saved in this browser only and is rebuilt on your next visit; the share link carries the same rule so anyone can open the calendar without an account.
Does the tool know Taiwan's public holidays?
The Taiwan quick-add list is calculated by rule every year: fixed dates plus the lunar festivals and Qingming. It does not include make-up days, bridge holidays or make-up workdays, which are announced year by year, so add or remove those dates yourself. For other regions, import the holiday calendar (.ics) that Google Calendar or your government publishes; only the dates are read and nothing leaves your browser.
